Rogers Cup 2019: When is it? Will Federer, Nadal and Djokovic play? When is the draw? | Tennis | Sport

The build-up to the final Grand Slam of the year continues in Montreal when the Rogers Cup starts next month.

The tournament is the third of the US Open Series and is one of two Masters 1000 events before New York.

Rafael Nadal is the defending champion after beating Stefanos Tsitisipas in the final last year.

Rising Canadian stars Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov will be the star attractions at their home event.

When is the Rogers Cup?

The Rogers Cup begins on August 5 with the final on August 11.

Will Roger Federer play?

Roger Federer will not be playing at the Rogers Cup after opting to rest after Wimbledon.

“Looking ahead, we had decided in the team I was going to skip Montreal anyway already a week ago, just give myself enough time,” he said.

“I wish I had more, but I don’t. I’m just going to take enough time off what I can and prepare for Cincinnati and get going from then on again.”

Will Rafael Nadal play?

Rafael Nadal will play in Montreal as he looks to bounce back from his defeat to Federer at Wimbledon and defend his title from 2018.

Nadal will be the top seed for the event.

Will Novak Djokovic play?

The world No 1 will not be in action at the Rogers Cup as he continues his break following victory at Wimbledon.

“I’m sorry to announce that I decided to pull out of Rogers Cup,” Djokovic said in a statement.

“With the support of my team, I have decided to give my body longer rest and recovery time before coming back again to play.

“I love Canada and I have many friends there that always make me feel like I’m at home and I’m looking forward to coming back again to play in front of all of you in Montreal.”

When is the draw?

The main draw for the event will be made on August 2.
