A Liverpool fan is in hospital after allegedly being ‘ambushed’ by Napoli fans before Tuesday night’s Champions League tie.

Steven Allen, who was at the game with friends, is in hospital after sustaining “significant blood loss”, leading to him collapsing at half-time of the match at the Stadio San Paolo.

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore confirmed that he was at the hospital with the fan.

The Reds chief replied to a post from a Liverpool fan claiming that the incident had occurred after Napoli fans ambushed Liverpool supporters in a bar.

The post, on a Liverpool fans Facebook group, said: “My mate Steven Allen is currently in Ospedale Cardarelui hospital in Napoli.

“He collapsed a half time due to significant blood loss sustained after being ambushed in a bar by Napoli fans.”

Moore replied: “I’m at the hospital with Steven right now.

“We will not leave him until we are comfortable that he’s fine, so can everyone stop worrying for now.

“Trying to get him seen by a doctor, but there’s a distinct lack of urgency here from the police and medical staff.”

Earlier in the evening, reports emerged claiming that a group of Liverpool fans had been attacked in a pub in Napoli.

A report in the Liverpool Echo claimed that a group of Napoli ultras had attacked the fans in a bar in Naples hours before the match.

A fan told the Echo: “We were just trying to have a quiet drink before going to the apartment and had just paid our bar bill.

“Next minute we could see about 10 scooters flying down. They slowed right down and their faces were covered with scarves and helmets.

“Next second they are jumping off swinging belts towards us. Must have all happened in 90 seconds but some lad got hit by a belt.

“Twice I’ve had bother here now. I am never coming back.”

It is not known whether the two incidents are linked.

Liverpool fans were quick to praise the CEO, and thanked him for taking the time to be there for the injured fan.

“Well done Mr. Moore!” one wrote.

“Mr. Peter Moore .. as always classy and an amazing person! YNWA mate,” another posted.

One tweeted: “Brilliant Peter fair play I hope he recovers fast YNWA”

“Top man Peter. Always there to listen and be there for the fans.” said another.
