Berry already caused quite a splash with her Bond bikini moment. Is the Oscar-winner really heading Under The Sea when Disney starts filming its latest live-action adaptation of a classic cartoon? The news created waves as it spread across the internet. Halle herself posted an excited message to fans.
Everybody knows it’s better, down where it’s wetter.
One excited fan wrote: “Good luck to Halle Berry. I wish I too could get away with playing teenage fictional characters well into my 40s.”
In fact, Berry is 52. She certainly has the beach credentials but is the former Bond girl seriously going to play a teenage mermaid discovering first love with a drowning prince?
In response to a tidal wave of social media posts, Berry posted: “In case you needed a reminder… Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can’t wait to see what you do!”
She is, of course, referring to rising pop star Halle Bailey. Their names don’t just look similar, they sound similar. No wonder the internet was bubbling over with confusion and excitement.
Fans comments mainly were laughing at their own foolish mistakes: “I may have spent half of today thinking Halle Berry was playing Ariel…”
“Omg thought the article about the new little mermaid said it was Halle Berry and I was like damn Ariel’s about to be 52 years old lmao.”
Berry was also swept up by the section of angry posts protesting the casting of a non-white star to play the iconic role.
Another fan wrote: “I was really mad about the little mermaid casting because I thought they said Halle BERRY and I was like why would they cast someone in their 50’s to play a 16-year-old???? Like I didn’t understand why people were so mad about her race when, like, age?? Then I realized I am dumb.”
Of course, Brandy famously played Cinderella in the TV adaptation of the Rogers & Hammerstein musical, opposite Whitney Houston’s Fairy Godmother.
Bailey is part of the R’n’B duo Chloe x Halle with her sister.
