Arsenal player ratings vs Sheffield Utd: Aubameyang anonymous, Pepe unlucky, Xhaka awful | Football | Sport

Sheffield United beat Arsenal 1-0 after another poor away performance by the Gunners.

United were the brighter team in the opening half and they got the reward their play deserved when an unmarked Lys Mousset tapped in on first league start for the club.

In the second half, Arsenal upped the pressure but failed to really test Dean Henderson in the United goal.

And the Yorkshire side held on to complete a memorable win and move up to ninth in the table.

Arsenal player ratings vs Sheffield United

Leno – 5

The Arsenal goalkeeper had no protection from his defenders as Mousset tapped in. Rarely troubled otherwise.

Chambers – 4

The end product from the makeshift right-back was abysmal. On several occasions, he was found in good positions but failed to do enough with the ball. Hector Bellerin’s return can’t come soon enough.

Sokratis – 5

Defended well for the most part. Sheffield United’s strikers did little to trouble him.

Luiz – 5

A series of poor clearances from the Brazilian didn’t help Arsenal to alleviate the early pressure from United and it ultimately cost them dearly.

Kolasinac – 5

Like Chambers on the other side, Kolasinac’s delivery was not good enough when it was needed. Kieran Tierney’s quality from the left is much needed.

Guendouzi – 5

A willing worker as always but unable to stamp his authority on the match from the middle of the park.

Xhaka – 4

Another player with little influence on the game. No surprise when he was hauled off.

Pepe – 5

Arguably Arsenal’s best player on the night. Also had their best chance in the first half but fluffed the opportunity. His dribbling remains very good but confidence is lacking.

Willock – 5

Given a start in midfield but taken off at half time. Not the best day for the young midfielder.

Saka – 5

Booked for a dive in the first half in a controversial moment. Looked to be creative but too much is being asked of the teenager.

Aubameyang – 4

September’s player of the month struggled to get going for Arsenal. He had little service on the night.
